About Unpack Report
We are a small editorial team in Portland, Oregon, writing for people who want one good answer per category of Mac software, not a top-twenty list.
Who we are
Unpack Report started as a shared document among three Mac administrators at a Portland design agency and became a public site in 2024. The editors have run Mac fleets, shipped software and supported non-technical relatives, which is the lens for every review.
How we test
We install the app on at least two Macs, one Apple silicon and one older Intel, use it for real work for two weeks, run timed benchmarks where speed matters, read the source when it is public, and check the privacy statement and the App Store listing. We re-check prices and versions at least twice a year.
How we are funded
By display advertising, including Google Ads, and by nothing from the developers we review. No affiliate links to the products under review. See the editorial policy.
